Buying a diamond can be stressful and challenging. We here at Spexton Fine Jewelry on Cherry Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma are here to help. With our years of expertise and knowledge, we can help guide you through the process of buying the perfect diamond, of any cut, color, clarity or carat size. You may have heard about those before, they are commonly referred to as the Four Cs of diamonds.

The four Cs of diamonds are Clarity, Color, Cut, and Carat. I will be writing a blog entry about each one of the Four Cs of diamonds. Today, our focus will be on Color.

There is a diamond color scale established by the Gem Institute of America (GIA), the gold standard in diamond grading. There is also a separate color grading scale for diamonds that have what are called “fancy” colors, but we will talk about that at another time. The traditional diamond color scale starts at the letter D and ends at the letter Z. The letter D represents the most colorless diamond you will ever see, meaning you do not see the tones of yellow or brown that will see in diamonds of a lesser color grade. D, E, and F color grades are considered colorless. G, H, and I are considered near colorless, meaning there is no color visible to speak of. When you get to J, K, and L, you may begin seeing tones of yellow or brown in the diamond. M-Z will have apparent brown or yellow color to them.

The more colorless diamonds are rarer and more desired on the market, so they are more expensive than the diamonds lower on the color grading scale. That said, it is sometimes the best bang for your buck to choose a diamond in the G-I range, because you will be paying less than you would for a D-F color diamond, but you will still have the near colorless appearance.

These kinds of decisions are what we here at Spexton Fine Jewelry in Tulsa can help you with. We have a GIA graduate diamond expert on site in our store on Cherry Street. By the way, if you have never been to Cherry Street, be sure to check it out. It is one of Tulsa, Oklahoma’s most popular districts for shopping, dining and nightlife entertainment.

At the Spexton Fine Jewelry store on Cherry Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma, our staff will help you find just the right diamond. One of the co-owners of the store, Andy Marcum, has almost forty years of experience in the diamond industry and he can and the staff at Spexton can help you obtain the best diamond possible for your taste and budget. Andy has an impeccable eye for diamonds. He has been overseas to purchase diamonds directly from the suppliers. He has been a professional in the diamond business in Tulsa for nearly forty years, having started out selling diamonds wholesale out of his warehouse in downtown Tulsa. The way Andy got linked up with the Spexton brand is that he met the founders of Spexton, Nate McPherson and Greg Shelton, about ten years ago and they began working together. Andy would supply the diamonds for the rings that Nate and Greg would make. Andy, Nate and Greg decided to combine their effort officially when they opened the Spexton Fine Jewelry location four years ago at 1609 E 15th St, Tulsa, Oklahoma.

We show you the invoice of what we pay for the diamond and charge just ten percent on top of that. For example, if we pay $5,000 for the diamond, you pay just $5,500 (plus sales tax). It is that simple.

Once we find a diamond that fits your desired perimeters, we will have the diamond shipped for you to see it in person (with no obligation to buy). You can view the diamond outdoors in the sunlight, indoors in our store, and under 10x magnification.
